LEXINGTON — Mark Stoops is entering Year 3 of his head coaching stint at the University of Kentucky, and as far as bowl games are concerned, hopefully the third time’s the charm. The ranking took into account the Wildcats impressive 5-1 start last year before a six-game slide knocked them out of bowl contention for... Read more

Calipari wants more fouls called, not "football" on the hardwood

05/28/2015 08:28 PM

DESTIN, FL – It looks like John Calipari won’t be inviting any NCAA officials to dinner any time soon.

The Kentucky basketball head coach made headlines at the Southeastern Conference’s spring meetings on Wednesday, questioning whether or not college referees “have the stomach” to blow the whistle. When asked whether the NCAA’s new rule changes will improve collegiate basketball — like shortening the shot clock from 35 to 30 seconds — Calipari quipped that none of it will matter if officials... Read more

Final Four loss still stings for UK, especially for Calipari

LEXINGTON — When Tony Barbee spoke in front of the media at Memorial Coliseum on Thursday for the first time as an assistant coach at Kentucky, he made an interesting comment about the Wildcats’ premature departure from last season’s NCAA Tournament. “I doubt he’ll even get over it,” Barbee said of head coach John Calipari. “I don’t know if any of us will. “It was such a special and historic season — and that one loss doesn’t change that — but... Read more

LEXINGTON — Tony Barbee spoke with the media today for the first time since being promoted to be Kentucky’s newest assistant basketball coach. Despite having opportunities to pursue head coaching jobs at other schools, he explained why he chose to stay in Lexington. It’s all about John Calipari. Barbee and Cal go way back, all the way to 1989 when Barbee played under the Hall of Fame coach at the University of Massachusetts. When Calipari left The Bay State to take his... Read more

The $120 million renovation of Commonwealth Stadium moved one step closer to completion today when the installation of the field’s new turf began. Completion of the synthetic surface installation is expected in July. It is the same surface featured in the 2013 and 2014 Super Bowls, as well as the annual NFL Pro Bowl. The plans to makeover Commonwealth include the new UK logo at mid-field and checkerboard end zones. It also includes a renovated press box, club seats, bathrooms, lights... Read more

SEC adopts innovative concussion protocol

05/27/2015 07:43 PM

DESTIN, FL — The Southeastern Conference held its first day of spring meetings yesterday, and to the surprise of nobody, Nick Saban was upset.

It’s become sort of an annual tradition for the Crimson Tide head coach to show up to the annual meetings with some grudge over one topic or another, and this time, cost of attendance regulation and satellite camps were grinding his gears. ********** On a more positive note, the league passed a piece of ground-breaking legislation to better... Read more
