This week, Big Blue Nation mourns the loss of legendary athlete Wallace “Wah Wah” Jones. He was 88. Jones played basketball, football, baseball and also ran track for the University of Kentucky in the 1940s. He is most well-known as a member of the 1947-48 “Fabulous Five,” along with Ralph Beard, Alex Groza, Cliff Barker and Kenny Rollins. Indianapolis high school basketball star John Stewart was committed to the University of Kentucky and on his way to a state championship when he suddenly collapsed during the regional championship game of the Indiana high school playoffs. “Wildcat Forever: The John Stewart Story” tells the story of John’s life, the lives he impacted and how his death has inspired those who loved him to save children’s lives in his memory. Despite going 2-10 in 2013, hopes and expectations for Kentucky football are riding high. Fans don’t expect to win a national championship, but they do expect to see drastic improvements in the works. As several hundred UK fans packed the dining hall at Galt House East in Louisville, Mark Stoops took the podium to address the state of the UK football program. Coming off a 2-10 season, many outside BBN might not expect a ton of positive energy, but that’s the exact opposite from the vibes that surround Kentucky football. Recruiting is at an all-time high, fans are confident about seeing improvements on the field and Coach Stoops is right there with them. Read more
